No one wants to pay more when they could get the same thing for less, right? I decided to try the tinted moisturisers from e.l.f. Cosmetics and First Aid Beauty (FAB) to see if the formulas are comparable. Here’s the thing: The FAB moisturiser costs 9 times more than the e.l.f. product! (Yes, you read that right!) While the e.l.f. tinted moisturiser retails for only $3 USD, the FAB one retails for $28 USD. So which one is better? Keep reading to find out!
e.l.f. Cosmetics | Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20
This e.l.f. tinted moisturiser spreads well, provides light coverage and leaves a semi-matte finish. I really appreciate that this product has SPF 20 in it. It does smell very slightly like sunscreen but I don’t mind that at all.
One thing I don’t like about this product is the undertone. I have the shade Nude and it’s a bit too orange-toned for me. I am, however, still able to make it work if I spread it out well. My other issue with this moisturiser is that, as the day goes on, I notice that it clings to dry spots on my skin and it doesn’t look even anymore.
First Aid Beauty | Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturiser
The FAB tinted moisturiser spreads very nicely and provides a beautiful luminous finish. The coverage is definitely light but it blends evenly into the skin. FAB claims that this product is good for normal, combination, dry and sensitive skin types. I have combination sensitive skin and it worked well for me.
Here’s what I don’t understand about this product: the one sold in Canada doesn’t have SPF in it but the one sold in the United States does have SPF. I’m assuming that it’s due to different regulations regarding the use of sunscreen in cosmetic products. But I think that it’s unfortunate because I would have preferred this product to have SPF in it.
In terms of finish and lasting power, I definitely prefer the First Aid Beauty Tinted Moisturiser. But is it worth the $28 USD price tag? To be completely honest, it really depends on what you are looking for. If you are only looking for an easy product to wear on “no makeup days”, then I think the e.l.f. product does the job and I wouldn’t bother spending the extra money on the FAB moisturiser. But if you are looking for a product with a beautiful finish to use as an alternative to foundation when you want light coverage, then I would say to go with the FAB tinted moisturiser.
