e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation & Selfie Ready Foundation Brush [Review]

e.l.f. foundation and brush

In this post, I review the Flawless Finish Foundation and Foundation Blurring Brush from e.l.f. If you are just starting out in your transition to cruelty-free beauty products, e.l.f. Cosmetics is a great brand to start with. [My first cruelty-free order was actually from e.l.f.!]

There are several reasons for which e.l.f. is a good brand for cruelty-free newbies. First of all, e.l.f. products are very affordable and, in North America, e.l.f. products are fairly easy to find in store. But if shopping in store isn't your thing or if you live outside of North America, e.l.f. has a great website and they often have sweet shipping promotions. In addition, e.l.f. is a great place to start if you want to stick to vegan beauty products because all e.l.f. cosmetics are vegan. So you won't have to fuss around with reading the ingredients to find out if the products are vegan.

But enough said about why e.l.f. Cosmetics is an awesome brand - let's get into the review!

e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation

e.l.f. makes the following claims about this foundation:

  • Lightweight and oil-free formula blends in naturally for a beautiful semi-matte finish
  • Applies easily and lasts all day for visibly brighter and radiant looking skin
  • Restores uneven skin textures and tones
  • SPF 15 protects your skin against harmful sun damage

Pros: This foundation is very affordable ($6). It is fairly easy to apply and I agree that it leaves a semi-matte finish. The coverage is decent and fairly natural looking.

Cons: Within a few hours, this foundation starts to wear off and leaves an uneven finish. This foundation also clings to dry skin patches on my face. I do not believe that this foundation has contributed to restoring my uneven skin texture, as it is claimed. Finally, my foundation is in the shade Porcelain and it matches my skin okay. However, their shade range is quite limited - Porcelain is the lightest out of six shades.

So what's my final take on this foundation? This foundation is okay but it is not my favourite. It is fine as an inexpensive everyday foundation, but I would not reach for it for special events or outings.

e.l.f. Selfie Ready Foundation Brush

e.l.f. makes the following claims about this brush:

  • It distributes product evenly by blurring product into the skin for a soft-focus selfie ready effect
  • The dome shape facilitates contouring and blending around the angles of the face
  • Appropriate for foundation, concealer, and any other cream, liquid, or powder products
  • Great for blending and blurring makeup for a soft, smooth, and flawless effect

Pros: This brush is very affordable ($6), fairly dense but still soft, and its small size allows you to blend around the smaller angles of the face.

Cons: While this brush serves its purpose, I had expected it to be a bit larger than it is. This isn't a major issue for me but it does mean that it takes me a bit longer to apply my foundation.

So what's my final take on this brush? I like it and I would recommend it. It's a brush that can have multiple purposes.

  1. Great post! I’ve been using e.l.f foundation for my everyday outings instead of reaching for my $50 ones.
I think it would make a great wear-at-school foundation for the teenagers starting out with makeup!
